Freshly baked bread from their wood burning oven, artisan at its best. Appetizers change daily. I tried a trio of crostini: black olives with roasted red peppers combine salty and smoky sweet marvelously; Ricotta cheese with sweet cranberry glaze doesn’t excite; bone marrow, cold, unseasoned, waxy. Yawn. Finally my pizzas have arrived. Matteo is portobello, oyster and crimini mushrooms, ricotta salata, fior fi latte, and tomato sauce. Margherita is tomato sauce, fior di latte, and fresh basil. Both pizzas were surprisingly cold, almost impossible to hold, and the oyster mushrooms were suspiciously absent from the matteo pizza. Their saving grace is the tomato sauce—its incredible—fresh and flavourful, just the right amount of sweetness. The Italian sausage is a wonderful balance of herbs and garlic seasoned to peppery perfection. Dessert was a delectable blood orange gelato.
Cute bar, the basics. Wine list needs a little love.
Seating upstairs is best by their beautiful wood burning oven. Service was a little slow, inattentive.
