This place really is worth all the hype. Chef Nuit Regular is from Chiang Mai, a city in Northern Thailand. And in Toronto, amongst a sea of impostor’s, her restaurant Khao San Road reigns supreme. Thailand is closer than you think, just walk through the door and Thailand’s colourful and exciting cuisine is right before your eyes. Fresh rolls wrapped around home-made chicken sausage, lettuce, carrots, mint leaves are served with beautiful tamarind garlic sauce. The spicy chicken sausage heats you up as the mint cools you down, topped with peanuts and Thai coriander it’s perfectly balanced for maximum taste. Tom yum gai (soup) has sweet chilis, fresh lime leaves, sour lemongrass and a velvety shrimp broth that warms you from the inside out. Pad Gra Prao Beef (or chicken) is a tantalizing signature dish containing stir-fried minced beef, holy basil, rice topped with a fried egg. Cut into the egg and watch it run over the aromatic rice like lava, flawless. Pad Kee Mao or Drunken noodles dish uses fresh garlic, green chilis, bamboo shoots, long green peppers, Thai basil leaves, keep the flavour mild for just enough bite. Pad Thai or Sam Ros is “a taste of the chef’s hometown goodness”. Authentic home-made roasted peanuts caress thin rice noodles, mingle with fried chilis and fresh lime that tingle and awaken senses – you never even thought you had. Tofu adds intensity to these dishes that is not tasted elsewhere. Here is a restaurant that hasn’t been lost in translation. Here you will experience rich, authentic flavours that bring Thailand into your soul.
