The smells and sounds in the kitchen are fantastic. Chef Rodney Bowers masterfully creates delicious meatball sandwiches, which is just the tip of the iceberg. The shop is small but the personalities are large. The menu written on a chalkboard shows off their daily creations.
Today I decided to try the Rodfather. Just imagine 3 beef and pork meatballs, spicy tomato Bolognese sauce, Grana Padano parmesan cheese garnished with basil fitting perfectly inside your mouth – tasting delightful. Don’t be fooled by the size of the sandwich because it’s unbelievably filling. I also ordered a chophouse salad which thrilled me combining sliced radish, red pepper, onions, carrots, celery, cucumber, kale, cauliflower and balsamic vinegar.
On my initial visit I felt I had only scratched the surface. Returning a few days later I order the chicken balls served with creamy buttery mashed potatoes in a wonderfully rich duck and mushroom gravy. Next time I will substitute beef and pork balls instead of the chicken, it just didn’t have the right texture or flavour to complement the dish. Sides of warm rosemary beets and broccoli with garlic remind me of family gatherings during the holidays.
Warm cookies fresh from their oven are the perfect sweet finish to a comforting meal. Q infused sodas made in house taste vivacious. Candied Ginger lingers on the palette highlighted by fresh lemon in their ginger ale soda. When the last drop is gone make sure to eat up the sugary ginger morsels left behind by the straw.
