Two levels of Neapolitan pizza bliss spark new excitement in the Broadview – Danforth Greek community. Warmer and more spacious than its predecessor on Ossington, they also have decided to take reservations. Most of the menu remains the same, but the few additions are really quite lovely.
Anchovy Crostino adorned with eggplant, red pepper, confit tomato and buffalo ricotta is luxurious and smooth, sadly I can barely taste the delicate white anchovies. Dungeness Crab Ravioli bathes in a wondrous sea urchin cream with chanterelle mushrooms and citrus which keeps the dish nicely balanced. The ravioli’s texture is sublime; this dish is an answered prayer. Endive and grapefruit salad is bright, alive, vibrant and fresh flavoured with beets, moscatel (white grape) citrus vinaigrette and candied walnuts. Papa Luigi is one of the newest pizzas to join the menu. Topped with tomatoes, speck (cured smoked ham), gorgonzola, and red pepper – it’s a meat lovers dream. Refreshing blood orange mascarpone sorbet was the perfect way to end my meal, picture a “Creamsicle” on steroids.
All of the wines are available by the glass. Try the Montefelco Rosso 2008 D.O.C Caprai, from Umbria, its brooding, savory and succulent.
Normally I’m drawn to their pizzas, now it’s the appetizers that enchanted me.
