I have been craving Indian food for quite some time when a friend turned me on to Lahore Tikka House in the cities east end. After looking at the menu online, I had to drive across town and try their exotic Pakistani cuisine. I drove right by the castle-like building on my first pass – look out for a tiny sign on the edge of their parking lot. Once inside I’m greeted warmly by staff whom aid in narrowing down the menu, to a few of the kitchens favorites.
Garlic Naan is outstanding, soft, chewy and garlicky delicious. Lahori Lamb Kababs made of spiced minced meat, grilled on skewers is particularly delightful when wrapped inside a buttery naan. Fragrant Chicken Biryani is perfumed with nutmeg, cardamom, garlic, cloves, coriander, onions and a perfect balance of peppers. The Karahi Gosht Lamb was a little on the oily side but tasty none the less. Especially if one loves sucking out marrow from the tender chunks of lamb.
To accompany all this spicy food is a variety of soothing yogurt based drinks. Sweet lassi was my favorite follow by the lusciously fruity mango shake.
