Pantheon

Pantheon    416-778-1929    http://www.pantheonrestaurant.com/   open daily – lunch and dinner

This Danforth institution is wildly popular among lovers of authentic Greek food.  This is my go to place whenever I’m in the mood for some Greek wine and meze.  Colourful murals painted on the walls set a cheerful milieu in the dining room.

Once comfortably seated I always start with the large dip platter that includes, Gigantes – baked fava beans in an herbed tomato sauce, a zingy Octapodi Toursi – marinated octopus, and a choice of the most delightful and addicting house-made dips.  With a smoky hummus, creamy taramoslata, earthy melitzanosalata, and a garlicky skordalia that will turn your head right around – yum!  Sinfully delicious Garides Saganaki is outstanding; the heaping portion of savory richness is more than enough for two people.

Crisp Greek wines pair perfectly with feta cheese and many other dishes on the menu.  Retsina is one of my favorites – it’s one of those love it or hate it wines and I love it.

If you’re a regular on the Danforth, or just strolling through, I suggest you stop in at Pantheon – for a snack or for a start to a great night.

ABOUT ME

I have lived in Toronto my whole life. I'm first generation German/Polish. My obsession with food began when I was young, watching my parents cook dinner, helping with barbeques. I try a new restaurant every week and I love to travel. There isn't anything I wouldn't try or do. I love sharing all my food adventures!
