An evening with iYellowWineClub.com
Never having been to a wine class, I had no idea what I was in for. Walking through the restaurant I’m guided downstairs to a private room full of excited, wine loving enthusiasts. I’m offered a glass of Port Wine Sangria, made with Taylor Fladage, soda and orange – a new favorite of mine. The room is warmly decorated; the friendly staff accommodating. Throw out all notions of a stuffy, pretentious, feel like you have to “know-it-all” class. Here Angela Aiello and sommelier Taylor Thompson, enlighten wine devotees in an interactive, casual atmosphere.
As we move though the wines, I glance around to see swirling glasses, engaging voices and just a great energy throughout the class. Each week focuses on different regions and varietals. This evening is centered around new and exciting grape varieties After savoring the 8 wines, it was time for some food.
Marben serves up a few tasty treats, to complement the wines, from their farm-to-table menu. Tonight it’s the juicy John’s burger, crispy Hayden’s Cod Cakes, and a sweet and savory cheese plate. Monforte dairy supplied wonderfully nutty, ‘Salers’ semi-soft cow’s milk cheese that melts on the palette; spread over house made bread with candied walnuts and crab apple jelly is sublime.
All in all I had a great time. I learned, I tasted, I can’t wait to come back.
