Ursa

Ursa Bears a Major resemblance to a sexy, dimly lit cavern.  A large bar is the preferred area to sit, although dining under a  light-bulb constellation isn’t half bad either.  The room draws in a diverse, attractive crowd.  Cheerful servers swiftly navigate the room.

The mainly Canadian menu shines with raw fare, like White-tail Tartare (blueberry cured fois gras, and Icelandic moss) and Hamachi (housemade Miso, pickled ginger, preserved lemon and kumquat, buttermilk).  The texture of the fois gras when tasted with tartare is exquisite, sprinkled with an aromatic moss that, oddly, brings me back home (playing with my brothers train sets).  For dessert, blissfully light Milk and Honey (sweet warm ricotta, rosewood honeycomb, leatherwood, bee pollen, pear and spelt rye); Zeus would have been proud.

This eatery is undeniably unique and delicious.  If one is looking for food off the beaten path, may I suggest an evening dining under the stars, at Ursa Major.

ABOUT ME

I have lived in Toronto my whole life. I'm first generation German/Polish. My obsession with food began when I was young, watching my parents cook dinner, helping with barbeques. I try a new restaurant every week and I love to travel. There isn't anything I wouldn't try or do. I love sharing all my food adventures!
