Playa Cabana Cantina 647.352.7767 open daily lunch & dinner http://www.playacabana.ca/2883-dundas/
On any day, the wait for a table at this Junction spot can push an hour, but the place buzzes with the energy of well-sated regulars. Cantina is the sister restaurant to Playa Cabana, actually it should be called the twin sister because the menu is exactly the same. The room, however, is larger and plays with neon lighting and lively Mexican beats. With floor to ceiling bottle displays and a contagious energy that can be best described as truck-stop meets discotheque, this spot is very addicting.
The margaritas are almost flawless, transporting one away somewhere warm and carefree. My favorite, and I think the best is the TO Cointreau margarita. The food menu sparkles with a few must order items: salty homemade corn chips, a smoky fresh-made salsa and buttery Guca Fresca (guacamole). The ceviche is made in-house with freshly sourced seafood (today it is Tilapia) marinated with lime and chili; however, little on the acidic side.
The fish tacos, made with gluten-free corn tortillas paired with grilled or fried white basa, need to be a touch crisper. Chipotle marinated chicken wings (yes I know it’s a Mexican place) taste a little old and heavily spiced, that said they do grow on you. Note to the kitchen: change the menu description from grilled wings to fried.
