Garden Restaurant 416.596.0818 open daily lunch & dinner – late thurs, fri, sat
Regulars flock to this quaint entertainment district late-night hotspot for reasonably priced, well-executed Chinese classics. Most Torontonians know about Garden Restaurant, others hear about it from word of mouth. The food is consistently tasty and the newly renovated room always holds some form of excitement. On one evening, leaving the restaurant, I noticed a huge lineup at 3am – they must be doing something right. Let’s be real. It’s not out of this world cooking, just addicting comforting food. And it will have you clamouring for more.
Today I ordered a few dishes for a takeout lunch. A simple dish of Cantonese stir-fried Chow Mein, rich silken fried egg noodles, is bathed in a savory sauce rich with protein and vegetables. The acid tang of chili flakes equalizes the combined sweetness and spiciness of the General Tao Chicken. Deep fried crunchy shrimp finishes off a finger-licking satisfying lunch.
