Finding this speakeasy is a tad difficult if one doesn’t know what one is supposed to look for: the pink glow of a tarot card palm reading sign. Inside a mirrored stairwell leads one down to spirited conversation, live trivia and periodic cheers for the latest winner harmonize into a rollicking din. They also have a DJ playing soulful house, R&B, and old school hip hop Thursday through Sunday nights and a simple yet tasty snack menu.
Cured salmon is lovely with burnt honey, a few dollops of cream, radish and crunchy taro. Love the savory sesame-miso Korean short ribs, and the Tahini spiced falafel with yogurt, pickled onion, bibb on a pillowy still warm on a house-baked pita. Mini lamb and bone marrow meatballs are so moist and perfectly seasoned its almost a shame to slather them in a basil sauce with roasted red pepper… until one takes a bite of their heavenly house-baked Parmesan brioche bun. Succulent fried chicken is rightly paired with turnip slaw, carrot, ketchup and bibb lettuce. Only a cold deviled egg misses the mark: the aggressive black pepper bullies the chives and Saint Agur.
