I was invited to have dinner at this beautiful property last summer and have just now had the time to make it down. Even though the ground and trees are covered with snow the property is gorgeous, and the interior looks very similar to a rustic wood cabin belonging somewhere up north, lucky for me this spot is in Mississauga. I was shown to a tiny, 5 table dining area which is kinda surprising for a 35 room inn. The menu is small seeming to cater to large parties, weddings, etc. Servers are polite and eager to please.
The kitchen however, needs a bit of a tune-up. Classic French onion soup arrives in a cold ceramic bowl without a real amount of parmesan or mozzarella. The soup special of the evening is a lightly seasoned cream of zucchini that’s tasty though doesn’t dazzle. A grilled 9oz certified Angus beef rib eye steak ordered rare arrives blue-rare topped with a peppery horseradish butter sauce sided with mashed potatoes and seasonal root veggies. In the end a slab of juicy, perfectly pink prime rib accompanies mashed potatoes slathered in decadent gravy, disappointed only by a cool Yorkshire pudding.
