The décor is a mix of past and present: moment in time that encompasses everyone you love from the past and the future. Kids are more than welcome, there are two cuties holding hands down the narrow aisle as I’m writing this. The menu, influenced by French cooking, satisfies that unknown craving – when one doesn’t know what one wants. This place is a hidden gem, totally worth a visit – a great first date place.
Oysters from PEI with lemon and pickled chilled are fresh briny and packed with juice, just about plucked out of the ocean ($3 each). Silky beef Carpaccio $13 is a textural delight with raw shaved mushrooms, chives and tahini. Whippoorwill’s ground prime beef burger $14 is moist and rightfully spiced topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and Russian dressing (so good) on a buttered pillowy bun.
Korean ribs $16 are a miss being a tad chewy but a hit slathered in a sultry sesame seed and scallion sauce topped with meaty king mushrooms. Love the fragrant south Indian curried mussels and the sweetly spiced general Tao chicken wings. I never order dessert unless its liquid, however, Whippoorwills’s house made butterscotch dessert is to die for: light, crunchy toffee with a touch of savory – a devilish dessert. No matter how full one thinks they are one will always have room for a whippoorwill butterscotch pudding.
