Opening just 9 days ago, the team from Come and Get It have finally found a permanent spot on the Queen West strip. What I’ve always liked about this spot is their unique menu. Start your own adventure by picking a sandwich, poutine, wrap or salad. Then choose a flavour to be incorporated into your dish – chipotle short rib, Hawaiian pork belly, fried chicken Caesar, mango jerking chicken, ol’ El Paso taco, coconut shrimp or winter vegetable – and bang! An exciting little creation arrives at your table for you to enjoy! Come and get cocktails, wine and beer every evening till 2am, watch as lights get turned down low and the music gets turn up high. Just one small issue with the décor; cold metal chairs and stools are hardly conducive to a chill and relaxing evening.
Savory Caesar’s arrive garnished with house pickled veggies. Bread scored from Golden Wheat Bakery wraps the roasted-fatty-pork-belly sweetened by Hawaiian-grilled-pineapple drizzled is pulled together by dark and savory Hoisin sauce quite nicely. A salad of winter vegetables (roasted squash, cauliflower, sweet potato curry and ancient grains) hits the spot and gives you that satisfying “I ate healthy” feeling. I hate to say it but I have to say it. The coconut shrimp poutine is a disappointment; heavily battered, over fried and rubbery coated in a sauce that lacks balance – though I do love capers they seem out of place here.
