I was invited to a blogger event that evolved into an interesting yet suggestive evening. When one walks through the door one feels warmth and belonging – think of a close friend’s dinner party with a wicked wine and cheese/fondue list. As the evening progresses around me on the second floor, a comely crowd sips expensive cocktails, while the handsome waitstaff distractedly hand out the next courses.
Tuna Rothschild is super rich which at first takes away from delicate texture of the fish but then, as the flavours intertwine it becomes quite an amuse bouche. Classic Swiss and gruyere alongside blue and brie cheese fondues are perfect for sharing with friends, a first date or just to experience something new.
And then we reach the top and it’s kind of a “downhill rollercoaster” from here. French onion soup, served burning hot (from hell) with gruyere could be an M&M’s doppelganger. Baked mac and (broken) cheese served three ways fails: blandish prosciutto, overcooked lobster and struggling truffle. All is not so bad, I did enjoy the wines especially a citrusy Camelot chardonnay, a lush Rebommee Bourgogne 2007 and a sparkling Vitteaut Alberti Cremant de Bourgogne, which works best in my opinion with the highlight of the evening, a tart raspberry ice cream and buttery panna cotta.
