Remember Lobby Lounge on Bloor, well this place could easily be called the second coming. Just a week old and it’s already a destination for area residents. Wood warms the modern art deco décor, though chic it’s on the verge of being kitschy. The design easily separates a coolly lit bar lounge from the cozy dining room.
A surprise garlicky bruschetta arrives crisp from the kitchen drizzled in thick balsamic. An order of plump oysters from P.E.I tastes super briny and sweet. Buttery Canadian AAA beef Carpaccio arrives under seasoned and slightly overwhelmed by arugula, parmesan cheese and extra virgin olive oil. Next a gorgeous seafood platter lands heavily loaded with tiger shrimp, grilled vegetables, carpaccio and velvety warm goat cheese crusted with rosemary panko.
Mushroom risotto is fairly fluid, however lacks that traditional al dente texture. Super crisp truffle fries pop with fluffy delight on the first bite, shaved parmesan adds sharpness, all they need is a good garlic aioli. Pillowy gnocchi float in rich bath of gorgonzola and cream – reminds me of my Polish grandmothers homemade Kopytka. My friends 10oz New York steak 10oz is perfectly cooked, its partner in crime an onion, looks more grilled than caramelized. Garlic mashed potatoes are totally a weak point, the kitchen should know you need a good amount of butter and cream to keep it from being stiff and dry. Oh and the bar needs a lesson in Mixology, example: our B-52 looked more like muddy swamp water than the shot. The dessert list is small, I suggest cleansing the palate a refreshing lime sorbet.
