As a food blogger, I always welcome helpful tips when taking photos. And when I heard Henry’s Photography was hosting “phoneography 101” at the newly opened Thoroughbred food and drink, I was “drawn like a moth to a flame”. Host Ren Bostelaar of Henry’s School of Imaging teaches us how to create the most mouth-watering photos of food and drink using a mobile device – the new iPhone 6 and 6+. Chef Ariel Copeland supplies the inspiration with a 6-course tasting menu explained below.
Soft, cottony milk bread buns hit the table first alongside a summery squash salad, sliced watermelon, pine nuts, padano. Next a Butcher’s tenderloin steak frites served with potato wedges and parsley salad nice is pleasantly rare and creamy.
My boyfriend chose the seasonal lake fish with wild rice, succotash, and smoked clams – so earthy its cleansing in that good-for-the-soul way. Sides of ” I can’t get enough” Kung Pao cauliflower with cashews, cilantro and chili spring AND broccoli marrow seasoned with plum vinegar, and mache add depth to the already stellar menu.
Finishing the evening with a banana split brown butter ice cream, flourless chocolate cake, and I’m seriously impressed. Too bad they are smack in the middle of the entertainment district….
