I love this tiny little sushi spot. Tucked away on Elizabeth street in the heart of downtown Toronto, Japango never disappoints. Chef and owner Bruce Bu has been wooing hungry patrons since the late 90s, 1999 to be exact and for good reason – the seafood is incredibly fresh and never disappoints. He also keeps my favourite sake on ice, Okunomatsu Kinmon Golden Crest “refreshing with well-balanced acidity. smooth and dry “ – love it!
I’ve been to Japan and the Uni (sea urchin) served here is comparable, if not better than what I found at the Tsukiji fish market – I’m told the best fish is auctioned off/sold at 4am. Other menu items that shine: seared B.C tuna, Tobiko and Salmon Roe with quail egg and sesame, seaweed salad.
