I’ve always loved Starfish. For 13 years this east end oyster shucking spot has an addiction of mine and many Torontonians. Not only is the bar the best seat in the house, but it has served as dinner theatre, a distraction and something else to look at for those on a first date. And then… I find out my favorite oyster/sea urchin “go-to” has “renovated” and reopened as Pearl Diver.
The interior looks somewhat similar, just a few pictures missing here and there over the mirrored bar. However the menu, which has lacked finesse in the past (you know what I’m talking about), has been totally revamped.
Chicken liver and oyster pate shines, sealed with a sugary “creme brulee” crust, sided pickled vegetables and toasted rye. East coast oysters briny and metallic always fill the void – nothing needed except another VISIT!
