Once again I am dining at one of my most cherished Indian food restaurants in Toronto, Pukka. I think the reason I love this spot is because of the waves of satiation and satisfaction I feel after an evening spent here. It’s not just the fragrant aromas emanating from the kitchen that warm the heart (cheesy but true), but the wonderful, welcoming staff and playful undercurrent felt here. Think of that family type of ambiance felt at the coziest of gatherings.Cocktails of the evening include the lovely Indian Summer (vodka, St. Germain, grapefruit, prosecco) and the Peach Spritz (marinated Ontario peaches, white wine, soda).
Tonight my boyfriend and I have decided to share a few dishes. Creamy kale salad is always a “go-to” favorite, chewy sugary dates appear when you least expect, combining merrily with spiced cashew dressing. An assorted bread basket paired alongside Raita, chutney and spicy pickle plate is always a perfect combo. If one loves spice, I mean loves spice (and seafood) order the Boatman’s Curry, rich in creamy curry flavour.
Lamb seems to be a specialty, the standout a plate of lollipops bathed in turmeric, mint and coriander. And if one has never been to Pukka before one MUST order a side of French beans topped with garlicky caramelized onions, turmeric and coconut. Oh I am so craving them now.
