I have a question for you… are you drinking enough water? If you’re like the majority of Canadians then you’re more likely to reach for sugar sweetened beverage than a healthier alternative to tame those taste buds.
Brita water recently conducted a survey on beverage consumption habits and found some interesting facts! I was sent this Brita water filter, I know water is good for you and all but like is it really different.
Some highlights include:
– 95 per cent of Canadians agree that the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages such as soda pop and sports drinks contribute to obesity
– While 91 per cent of respondents felt that obesity is more of a problem in Canada today than it was five years ago, Canadian continue to consume sugary drinks with over two billion sugary drinks consumed annually in Canada.
– 78 per cent agree they should be drinking more water than they do
– 21 per cent of Canadians suggest they do not drink enough water because they do not like the taste of tap water. Additionally, 16 per cent are concerned about water purity levels

Despite health concerns, more likely to drink convenient sugar-sweetened beverages
Toronto, October 29, 2014 – A new report on the water consumption habits of Canadians shows we don’t have much of a thirst for water, preferring to reach for on-hand sugar-sweetened beverages even though we acknowledge health concerns associated with these kinds of drinks.
Canadians agree that sugary beverages are not a healthy hydration choice
The report, conducted for Brita by Vision Critical, shows that Canadians overwhelmingly (95 per cent) agree that the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages such as soda pop and sports drinks contribute to obesity among Canadians and 94 per cent agree these drinks provide Canadians with more calories than Water is the best option for hydration
While nearly all Canadians (97 per cent) agree the best way to rehydrate and take care of thirst is to drink water, most agree (78 per cent agree) they should be drinking more water than they do.
Why aren’t Canadians drinking enough water?
Most Canadians (74 per cent) believe we’re more likely to drink sugar-sweetened beverages like soda pop and sports drinks because these beverages are more readily available than healthier options.
As well, 21 per cent of Canadians suggest they do not drink enough water because they do not like the taste of tap water. Additionally, 16 per cent are concerned about water purity levels.
