I love going on restaurant crawls, you know like bar crawls but more fun! Montecito, seemed to have just materialized out of thin air on Adelaide, which is odd because I travel it quite frequently. And it looks fabulous: thick black frame glass windows, holiday lighting and gold signage outside, sexy mood lighting in the interior. Inside two rooms divided by a large staircase have been decorated appropriately: one a moody hideout for an after work socialite and the other a large dining room for family and friends. Oh, and there is also another floor.
Master Chef Jonathan Waxman and executive chef Matt Robertson have an interesting concept to their menu “marrying the simplicity of the California cuisine that Jonathan himself pioneered, with ingredients that pay homage to the best of Canada coast-to-coast.” Now let’s see how they did.
I like the bar menu. It’s small but remember that is a good sign. And this one has more than a few favorites to pick at, like the wild mushroom, spinach, Fontana pizza. The variety is what blew me away. I find, on most of the city’s “mushroom pizzas”, you get your white, cremini and if you’re lucky a portabllo. But on this one you’ll find oyster, enoki, beech, moral, shiitake or whatever was growing this season in the forest.
