Second stop on our restaurant crawl.
Another pizzeria libretto has opened up with the exact same menu as the others. Sure it was just as tasty but I really wanted to see something different on the menu, I mean why not even a special or something. I guess the ambiance is reason enough to go: soaring ceilings, walls made of windows and light fixtures that look like spaceships. Have a 2001 space odyssey feel to them. Good service, lots of seating.
Tonight we enjoyed a few small bites – my favorites are definitely the fried stuff. Luscious deep friend ricotta gnocchi (Fritti) swim in San Marzano Tomato, Nduja, and Stracciatella. A densely packed cauliflower frittella (Italian pancake) is slightly pickled and seasoned with thyme, oregano, bufala ricotta, red pepper almond Romesco. Buffalo Buttery buttermilk calamari is served over red pepper almond romesco sauce libretto herb oil Romesco (a red pepper almond sauce).
Oddly enough the “Real Neapolitan Pizzas” that we tried were disappointments – not so much the crust, it is, as always was charred, chewy and pizzalicious. The toppings were more the issue.
Our first pie had these sour, vinegary white anchovies (fresh would have been much better) along with tomato, roasted garlic, red chilies. The second pizza was sent back, heavy and unbalanced. And the third fared much better with h house-made sausage, caramelized onion, and mozzarella and chili oil.
