I was invited to a preview of the Taste of Market Street: a collection of unique and diverse restaurants serving a prix fixe lunch menu on April 10th. The idea is to provide guests with a taste of what makes Market Street uniquely delicious. The stops include a Barcelona-inspired bistro, an innovative Italian eatery, a French roast coffee house, a slow pressed juice bar, fresh from the market locally-sourced seafood and a beautiful modern Indian restaurant.
This was one of the stops on our “Marketlicious” tour.
Our second stop on our adventure is actually the first restaurant on Market Street opening in 2013. Inside the decor pays homage to India’s history and it features a painted sari on the back wall inspired by the first sari the owner bought his wife – the sweetest thing ever! A nouveau approach to Indian cuisine, focusing on fresh ingredients which bring out the rich essence of Indian food. The restaurant, a family-run operation, is named after the owner’s daughter. Even the chef is the owners brother-in-law.
Love the cocktails (lemongrass cocktail!) and the intoxicating aromas of the food. We sample a number of the menu items:chicken seekh kabob (minced chicken seasoned with fresh herbs, spices sided with lentils and fresh mint chutney), lamb samosas (crisp pastry filled with seasoned minced lab spices, tamarind chutney), bhindi masala (fresh okra cooked with onions and roasted ground spices), butter chicken (tandoori grilled simmered in a rich creamy house blend tomato spiced sauce) and garlicky naan.
