My boyfriend, TTL has a cottage in Tweed and we try and go every other weekend. This year, on our second visit, we noticed a carnival style Fish N’ Chips stand in the heart of this 6, 507 population town and had of course we had to go and try it! The menu has a bit of everything: fish, burgers, steak, poutines, Mexican fries, scallops, chicken or sausage. Oh, and an intense selection of rarely available hot sauces and spices.
On this visit we tried the Atlantic Cod. We are told by owner, Jay, that he sources his cod from the deep Atlantic water which gives the flaky meat a sweet flavour. Unbeknownst to us, after we already order, Jay tells us about this lobster [sandwich] roll and how it’s his best seller. Grr. Regardless, we vow to come back again, and his “cover” of this globally trending delight.
Two weeks later we return to Tweed for a relaxing weekend, and also to try the lobster roll. However, when we arrive, salivating with thoughts of creamy crustacean on a buttery bun, we discover that it is not always available. Notable advice given: “please call before your come”, to ensure a fresh delivery of fresh Maritime Lobsters is on hand. Well not all is lost. Jay still had cod and a buttery-sweet almost nutty, deep fried scallop dish.
