I’ve always thought of Middle Eastern food as healthy and flavourful. There are even times I crave it with intent. Paramount Fine Foods is one of the front runners in fresh Lebanese cuisine and has made a name for themselves in the greater Toronto area. The only issue has been the fact that there is no location in downtown Toronto. Well, now owner Mohamad Fakih has finally opened a Yorkville store. And it is a brilliant move. Not only because the food is healthy and fresh, but because it is just what the neighborhood needed. The menu for all locations is mostly the same, however the atmosphere at this spot is definitely the draw: cozy, airy and quietly aristocratic.
My mom and I came with an appetite and I am glad we did because the afternoon was nothing less than memorable. Like any good Middle Eastern kitchen, this place turns out a wealth of food including richly flavoured dips (labneh, hummus, tabouleh, moutabbal) sided with freshly baked pita bread.
We also sampled a mixed family platter along with my favorite yogurt drink ARYAN. My mom could not resist ordering the Paramount Special smoothie layered with strawberry, mango juice mixed with fresh fruits topped with strawberry, kiwi, pineapple, almonds, crushed pistachio, ashta cream and honey.
Lastly we randomly ordered lamb, which was dry; and a yummy spinach and cheese Manakeesh.
