As soon as I heard the name, Patois, it was like “you had me at hello”. The atmosphere is fun, carefree, casual. They even have blow-up pool toys hanging from the ceiling, and a fully retractable garage door that totally makes ups for the fact the don’t have a patio.
The staff is so friendly and welcoming it’s like, do I know these people? Cocktails are a hit! Love the “Dutty Wine”(red or white wine) mixed with white rum, pineapple juice, lime and gingerale. Oh, and the luscious mango-infused gin “Jamaican Gimlet”, so sugary and citrus. The small menu is an adventure – hit after hit after hit! Chef Craig Wong doesn’t disappoint pairing Caribbean spices with nostalgic Asian flavours creating something so unique in Toronto. If you’re looking to impress someone, this is the place!
On this visit, trying to restrain ordering the entire menu (which is a “thing” here called the Whole Shebang), we sampled a few items. But what we tasted was orgasmic. Yes, I said it… Orgasmic.
Sweet and sour scallop and shrimp balls infused with C-Plus and a red vinegar caramelized gastrique are a surprising treat. Unreal. Jerk PorkBelly with Chicharron explodes with melt-in-your-mouth umami richness. And O.G fried chicken and watermelon pickle sided with Thai basil and sweet sriracha is a standout and a MUST order! So simple. So beautiful. So incredible.
I’m coming back!
