Another wine tasting. This time Aurelio Montes, senior winemaker and founding partner of Viña Montes in Chile was presenting a selective wine tasting. Montes was inspired by the Caiquenes (wild geese) to create great wines by combining the exceptional conditions of the Mendoza region with the talents of the professionals from Argentina and Chile. This created wines showcasing the best of both sides of the Andes.
Kaiken Brut is a sparkling wine made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay using the traditional method. Bottled for two years to obtain a balance between richness and delicacy, brings the bubbles structure and liveliness.
Kaiken Terroir Series Sauvignon Blanc is aromatic, intense with citrus aromas, lemon blossom and fresh peaches – what a delight!
Kaiken Terroir Series Torrontes displays high aromatic intensity through fresh fruits like peaches and orange peel. Floral notes are also noted – very characteristic of this wine variety.
Kaiken Terroir Malbec is bright with ruby red colour, and a nose with SUPER intense black fruit notes, such as blueberries, blackberries and plums. A very silky Malbec.
Kaiken Ultra Cabernet Sauvignon hits with elegant flavour. Mature red berries, tobacco and spices infuse the wine from aging in French oak. Hmm, there are also a notes of vanilla. Once sipped the wine is dense and mouth filling showing plum, redcurrant and mocha flavours. Great ripe structure with round soft tannins.
Kaiken Ultra Malbec is created using 100% pure malbec grape. Aromas of blueberry and intense flavours such as plums and spicy notes like black pepper and rosemary. A smooth well rounded finish with black fruits, vanilla and tobacco. A powerful wine – and my favorite !
