The decor is super hipster. Lineup out the door. They don’t have takeout or reservations, but they do have hip tracks playing while you dine. The premise of this restaurant is more of a focus on the humane ways we can treat animals, instead of obsessing over raw salads, note the sign. Being vegan doesn’t mean you need to eat vegetables all day, every day. It’s funky. We sit at the bar and order a few drinks.
Unfortunately for me, being the connoisseur of Caesars, Doomie’s decided to take their moral message way too far by using GARDEN COCKTAIL (instead of Clamato) AS THE MIX. GROSS! Call it a Bloody Mary for fuck sakes!
Okay, now the food starts to arrive. The fried avocado is divine. Crisp outside. Creamy inside. Next it’s Mac and Cheese. Awesome. Filling. So tasty I can’t believe this is VEGAN!!
I’ve have found that with vegetarian burgers the issue has always centred around the temperature – its never warm or hot enough. Not here. Here it is perfectly heated. A really, really good job of making the burger taste like a beef burger. But a little heavy on the sauce. I’m sure if you brought an unknowing friend to this spot they would not be able to tell the difference. Doomie’s version of the “Big Mac” is good… HOWEVER , it is LOADED with “special” sauce. Very messy. Don’t wear your best if you are planning on trying this one.
This one is a goody. The fried chicken burger at first bit gives you that “McDonald’s” type of feeling. The aroma, the taste is in perfect balance – beautifully tender and moist. Again it’s much to saucey…
I love how everything here is so opposite of what you would expect of a vegan restaurant. Different. Toronto needs more spots like things. Come here to lift your spirits. I suggest sitting at the bar.
