Always a wonderful experience at Azure. Whether it be dinner, brunch , breakfast, Winterlicious, Summerlicious or even a stay at the hotel, the staff lavish you with attention and care. Tonight, my friend Genie and I went to sample the 2017 Winterlicious menu, and the staff made us feel so special, especially Mohammed, our main server. The room is beautiful as always with lush greenery and high glass ceilings. Start the evening out right with the signature Azure Blue cocktail. With our meals we asked for wine pairings; it costs a little extra but it’s well worth it. But first, we MUST have some warm artisan bread, sided with a herbaceous salty-sweet butter.
Roasted maple-sweet squash and caramelized pear soup is up first, a fried oka fritter serves well in place of the traditional crouton. Octopus and scallop escapeche salad is zesty with orange and lime, flavours of rich avocado follow, shaved fennel and endives complete the dish drizzled in a balsamic reduction.
Leaves of mache and baby kale, frisee, dates, radish and feta cheese; so health and rich in flavour with a citrus honey vinaigrette.
Now, on with the mains. Lumache (shell pasta) with gorgonzola cream combined with spinach, royal gala apples, sprinkled lightly with hazelnuts is ONE OF THE BEST pasta dishes I’ve EVER tasted! WOW! Grain mustard coated salmon is an interesting creation. I found that one must eat each component (couscous, fennel, radicchio, blood orange nage) together to complete the dish. Love the Mediterranean spices and dressing.
And we are at the desserts. The apple pecan tart is so GOOD! I love the crumble of the sweet pecan crust, warm apple and honeycomb ice cream – a hint of cinnamon on the end. Tiramisu parfait is THE dessert for coffee lovers: savoiardi cookies, mascarpone mousse, kahlúa coffee and cocoa!
Here we go with the lemon cheesecake. I don’t like cheesecake. But, the candied graham crust, lemon, fresh citrus, and really, the toasted sesame seeds completed the dish.
