I was invited to a preview of North America’s largest food innovation trade show last year, Sial Canada at Sassafraz in Yorkville. I was unable to make it, so I sent Blogger Mom in my place. This was an informative session, covering new events and sectors for 2017 as well as a presentation about the latest food market trends presented by top food experts.
Presenting are the directors of Sial Canada: Xavier Ponain (director of Sial Canada), Stephan Denion (sales director), Marie-Christine Sevile (director/manager), and Miguel Miror (director of marketing).
Established in 2001, and held every two years, SIAL Canada, known as SIAL Montreal at the time, is the brainchild of three organizations that were shareholders of the event: the ADAQ (Association des détaillants en alimentation du Québec), the Groupe Export agroalimentaire Québec-Canada and the Société Comexposium (owners of the SIAL trade shows et subsidiary of Unibail Group). In 2010 it became a national show. And in 2011 it landed in Toronto.
Held at Montreal’s Palais des Congrès in April 2016, last year’s show brought together 930 exhibitors from over 50 countries and saw an increase in visitors of 17% over 2014, which is a record high for the event. After such a successful year, SIAL Canada’s 14th edition, in Toronto is expected to break this record yet again with over 240,000 ft2 of exhibition space, which is already 95% sold!
